Chapter 7

Colin was hiding something, and I didn’t know what pissed me off more. The fact he thought I couldn’t tell, or the fact it didn’t make me want to walk away. Which was exactly what I should do. Hell, I should have never agreed to this whole thing. I definitely shouldn’t have slept with him, but it was too late to go back.

Our flight left in five hours. From there we only had two days to get everything set and then we were on. If we didn’t get this right, we were all leaving the country in handcuffs. That was the last thing I wanted. It was why I had one last call with my girls.

This time, I made sure I was ten minutes early. Sure enough Jade was already waiting.

“Nice of you to be on time for once.” She greeted.

“I’m always on time.” I really wasn’t in the mood for her shit today. “But if you want I can get off and comeback in twenty minutes just to prove it.”

“Someone is obviously having a day.” She responded. “Partnership not going well?”

“Things are going fine.” I lied. “Where the hell are the others?”

“I’m sure they will be here, but in the meantime do you want to get started?”

“Might as well.” I threw a shirt in my bag and went over to my desk to sit down. “What do you have?”

“Other than the U.S., there are three countries that want him. Two of them have a reward for his capture.” She filled me in. “There is also a group in Madrid and one in Argentina that will pay top dollar to know where he is.”

Did I really want to make money off turning Colin in?

“I don’t know.” I hesitated. “Maybe we are rushing this. I mean, I have no real reason to believe he’s going to doublecross me.” Except for whatever he was keeping to himself.

“It shouldn’t matter whether he does or doesn’t. That isn’t the point here and you know it.”

Jade was right. There was more at stake than just making sure I walked away with the score, and if I went down, everyone would fall with me. My loyalty to them had to outweigh any feelings I might be starting to develop for Colin.

“Let’s go with the U.S.” I at least knew they would treat him well.

“I’ll make the call.” Jade agreed. “All you have to do is make sure you have the bonds and are nowhere in sight when they move in.”

“Who’s the contact?”

“Nope, I’ll get the information to you, but the contact is all mine.” That was new. Jade rarely kept anything to herself. What was it with people this week not wanting to share things that could blow up in my face?

The call beeped, and two more squares popped up. A moment later, came the last member of our team.

“Sorry I’m late.” Amethyst and Sapphire spoke over each other. Ruby didn’t bother.

“It’s fine. We pretty much have everything handled.” Jade informed them.

“What did we miss?” Amethyst asked, and I filled her in on the current plan.
